Lose weight while visiting Italy on foot? Absolutely!
Walking is my best weight loss tool, and to motivate myself, I choose to go out into the sunshine and
include the iFIT Italy Weight Loss Walking Workout series in my programme for the next 3 weeks. I
walk an average of 2 km a day, 6 days a week, in 30-minute sessions along the west coast of Italy,
from Genoa to the beautiful Amalfi Coast, via Rome and Florence. I take the opportunity to discover
or rediscover the most effective walking techniques for losing weight.
Join me in Portofino and Cinque Terre as I start my new iFIT series
My weight loss journey starts in Portofino, near Genoa, where I meet the two trainers who will
accompany me throughout my adventure, Stacie Clark and her husband, Chris Clark. I sweat from the
start with a series of interval walks and continue exploring the area along the Punta Chiappa trail on
a sloping course, where I build up my stamina while enjoying the stunning views of Portofino
Harbour.
I continue with interval speed work to Paraggi before reaching Cinque Terre with calorie-burning
bursts of intensity. Carried along by the sounds of Italy, I listen to Stacie tell me how she and Chris
overcame the pandemic period, and I gain confidence in the knowledge that I am up to any
challenge.
I continue along the coast of Volastra e Corniglia, through beautiful coastal paths lined with
vineyards, and continue my exploration of Cinque Terre with a visit to Vernazza before ending on a
high note with the discovery of a charming little village, Monterosso Al Mare.
The wonders of Rome and Florence are within my reach
My walking and weight loss series in Italy then takes me on a cultural journey to two of the
country’s most beautiful cities, Rome and Florence. I marvel at the architectural sites of Florence,
one of the cornerstones of the Italian Renaissance, while continuing to push my walking limits.
I’ve earned a short recovery walk in Rome, where I reach the Trevi Fountain, passing some
magnificent monuments. The rest of the trip takes me to the Colosseum for an interval walk along
the Tiber. I then return to Florence to work on my endurance before heading to the Vatican for a
speed session.
My urban journey ends with a fun fartlek session through the streets of Rome, constantly varying
my pace to keep burning as many calories as possible.
I hone my walking technique along the splendid Amalfi Coast
After this city interlude, I walk south toward the Amalfi Coast. The splendid view that I discover at the
end of an uphill session rewards me for my efforts. I already feel that my endurance has improved. I
can now give it my all during the increasingly intense interval walking sessions around Naples. Chris
and Stacie encourage me and tell me interesting stories about the history of the area.
I start to work on my power walking again as I pass through villages like Positano and Nocelle and
climb the iconic Path of the Gods staircase without slowing down! My training plan ends on this
incredible path with a recovery walk: I enjoy every moment of my last walk in Italy, remembering the
advice of my coaches and the beautiful landscapes I have traversed during these 3 weeks.
The Italy Weight Loss Walking Workout series can be followed on any ProForm treadmill or elliptical.
With its HD touch screen and real-time incline options depending on the terrain, the Pro 9000 will
give me the best experience. It’s time to get back to my measurements to see what this incredible
journey has done for my figure!
