I’m starting Vinyasa Yoga on iFIT: my inner journey under the Bermuda sun
I find inner peace by doing Vinyasa yoga, or flow yoga, through Shelley Dawson’s iFIT beginner
series. I learn how to breathe, flow through poses and become aware of my movements in 8
soothing sessions of less than 20 minutes, filmed in the Bermuda archipelago.
What is Vinyasa yoga?
The principle of Vinyasa yoga is to synchronise your movements with your breathing so that
everything flows together. This soothing form of yoga is accessible to all. It is an excellent way to
learn yoga and later discover Hatha yoga, for example, or Ashtanga yoga, a freer form of yoga in
which the postures are not fixed.
Vinyasa yoga is based on a sequence of poses (the asanas), the combinations of which are almost
infinite! By learning a few basic movements, I will be able to compose my own series very quickly.
The benefits of Vinyasa yoga are numerous:
● I oxygenate my cells by combining gentle movements and deep breathing, which has an
effect on my energy, and also on my mood and concentration.
● This type of yoga is both easy to access and dynamic. I work out and improve my physical
condition without forcing myself.
● Doing yoga helps me feel good: I am more relaxed, both during the sessions and in my
daily life.
What can this beginner series do for me?
By following the 8 sessions offered by Shelley Dawson, I take charge of my health and emotional
balance through a rejuvenating journey and I lay the foundations of my new yoga practice:
● I relax to the sound of the waves through deep breathing.
● I learn to place my body correctly during my sessions, which are designed to be
progressive. I start yoga under the best conditions, avoiding mistakes I might have made
on my own.
● I develop my balance, coordination and flexibility, with sequences that are as graceful as a
dance, and each movement is light and steady.
● I escape to incredible places in the Bermuda Archipelago, visiting Barr’s Bay Park in
Hamilton, Warwick Long Bay, Southlands Estate Nature Reserve, Tobacco Bay, Salt Kettle
Bay and other incredible places.
● I train on a catamaran, in the ruins of an unfinished neo-gothic church, in the heart of the
mangroves, amid nature, in creeks with crystal clear waters and more.
● I am introduced to mindfulness, a practice that I can incorporate into my daily life when I
walk, when I eat, when I need to let go, etc.
● I embark on a real journey within and I rediscover myself.
What poses will I learn in the Beginner Vinyasa Yoga series?
Shelley Dawson teaches me the basics of deep breathing in Vinyasa yoga in the beautiful turquoise
waters of Bermuda. Then, I learn my first asanas:
● Warrior pose
● Goddess pose
● Cobra pose
● Various other poses
Throughout the sessions, I also do stretching, breathing exercises, lunges, twists and core and
strengthening movements, some of which I may already know. Most importantly, I learn how to link
all these movements together in a fluid way, taking into account my breathing. My body and my
mind are one, I move from pose to pose, carried by my breath.
What materials do I need to get started?
I can follow this series anywhere using the screen of my ProForm equipment, a tablet, computer,
television or even my smartphone, I just need to install the iFIT app. I pack a comfortable outfit,
something to hydrate myself, and ideally, a yoga mat for floor poses or, if I don’t already have one, a
thick towel or blanket.
