I set up my home fitness gym at home
Setting up a home gym doesn’t take much space. What room should I choose, what should I look
out for, and how can I make sure my home fitness space remains comfortable and tidy? Step by
step, I’m going to create a gym worthy of a fitness club, but just for me!
I find the best place to train
Most of the time, I work out by rolling out my treadmill in my living room (before the kids get home
from school), or I stick to yoga and put off buying my elliptical because I haven’t found the right
place to set it up. But I’m quickly getting the hang of it and would like to improve my organisation so
that I only have to turn on my fitness equipment to start. It’s time for me to create a proper place
for exercise in my life: I’m creating my home fitness space for real!
The ideal home gym has the following features (but I will tailor it to the space available in my home):
● A window, so that I can enjoy natural light and air the room, or, if this is not possible, good
artificial lighting (I can opt for LED panels that simulate daylight).
● Access to a water source so I can fill my water bottle or even take a shower.
● Electrical outlets to plug in my fitness equipment and possibly other equipment.
● A flat, solid, easy-to-clean floor.
● Enough floor space to lay out my yoga mat without moving the rest of my equipment.
● Enough ceiling height to move freely.
● Storage for my fitness equipment, towels, gym clothes, etc.
● A chair or relaxation area to change, recuperate, etc.
● A large mirror to monitor my posture.
● Don’t forget the decoration: it’s my place, and I want to feel good there.
Whether it’s an old bedroom, a converted attic or a basement, many spaces can be used to create a
home gym!
I equip and decorate my space
Depending on the space I have available, I can now equip myself to set up my new home gym:
● I can get started easily in any room with a yoga mat, a tablet or a screen, something to listen
to my favourite music with and small training accessories: jump rope, ball, dumbbells,
elastics, weights, etc.
● If I don’t have much space, I turn to foldable fitness equipment, like ProForm equipment
with a SpaceSaver® design.
● I look for all-in-one solutions: would the Vue smart fitness mirror be ideal for my strength
training sessions? It’s very discreet and blends in with its surroundings, leaving a simple
mirror measuring 61 x 150 cm. My fitness room becomes a guest room again easily when I
need it. I store my exercise equipment directly behind the display.
I create my own space to stay motivated
I move on to my favourite part of the design: I personalise the space to make it a cosy haven where I
feel good:
● I put up quotes that inspire me or images that make me want to push myself: the bathing
suit I’ll enjoy wearing again this summer, a photo of my grandchildren because I want to stay
in shape for them too, and so on.
● I bring pencils, paper and notebooks to follow my training programme (or a table to put my
computer on).
● I don’t forget to put my journal next to my chair, to note my mood of the day and my
victories.
● Are my workout snacks too tempting for the rest of my family? I store them in a small fridge
in my fitness room.
● I regularly wipe my equipment with a microfibre cloth and keep my space tidy so that I
always want to work out there!
With a mini home gym, I have all the tools I need to achieve my fitness goals!
