I put a stop to self-criticism in 10 steps: a focus on self-esteem
Questioning, when constructive, is good but is it always what drives me forward? With these 10 resolutions, I silence my most virulent critic (me) and instead, I welcome my inner coach; the one who helps me remember why I deserve to be good to myself every day.
I choose to do myself good
Through this first resolution, to do good for myself, I am mapping out the beginning of my successful journey. I know that I will go through moments of doubt, but I accept them because my goal is bigger. I know where I start from and where I want to end up. I dare to go further than I felt capable of because I embrace change.
I stop comparing myself to others
To stop being self-critical, I start by no longer comparing myself with others. My body is unique and so is my way of learning, so I go at my own pace and have my own experiences. What I do, I do for me. What if I can’t keep up with the pace of a session? I choose another one: the one that will work for me!
I overcome doubt and fear
I put the focus back in the right place. Who am I afraid of disappointing but myself? I stop doubting what I can achieve because I am accountable only to myself. I do what I can and I believe in myself, that is the only contract I have with myself and I intend to stick to it!
I stop asking myself if it’s worth it
I replace this question with a more constructive one: are my dreams worth it? And the answer is yes! I deserve to take time for myself, at any time, unconditionally!
I know how to support myself
I rely on myself, but also on others, and accept their support. My mantra? I give what I have and I learn to receive what is offered to me. I, too, can be a source of energy and motivation for those around me, and in return, I receive the good vibrations I need to move forward!
I give myself the means to live my dreams
I may have the best intentions in the world, but I have to take the leap to my dreams. I stop thinking about what I should do or what I could have done better. I take one step at a time and move forward, as best I can. I can change my mind at any time: every day is a new blank page to write!
I nurture my confidence and self-esteem
I select the iFIT series that makes me feel good, for example, Mindfulness & Self-compassion spoken walks to get me into a body-positive state of mind with Dr Shapiro. I discover how to practice mindfulness so that I am better equipped to face the world. I can also try meditation with the Self Confidence Meditation session in the Panama Meditation series.
I practice visualisation
I see myself as I would like to be to project myself into the future, rather than focusing on my past actions. This is a very powerful lever: visualising an action activates the same neural networks as when I perform that same action. The more precise the image of myself in a position to succeed, the better! Thanks to visualisation, I become what I want to be and I develop my skills more quickly.
I adopt a gratitude attitude!
Every night, I write down the things I like about myself, for example, 3 things that made me proud of myself during the day, to read the next morning to build my confidence and realise what I have achieved. I am learning to separate things: I let go of negative feelings and feed myself only with positive emotions.
I let my inner coach speak
I learn to recognise when I am being too hard on myself. I let my critical thoughts out, so as not to cause frustration, I step back and always let my inner coach have the last word because he makes me feel good and it is encouragement that I need.
