Emotional balance: I go through menopause with confidence
My body changes throughout my life and menopause is a transition that I would like to prepare for
so that I can deal with it gently, with a better understanding of its possible effects on my emotional
balance and my mood. To approach menopause without fear, I create an effective action plan in 3
steps: I accept the change, I adopt new lifestyle habits, and finally, throughout my journey, I discuss
it with friends and family.
I accept this transition to a new stage in my life
The effects of menopause on mental and emotional health are complex to assess. I am at a
crossroads in my life where many changes are taking place: my body is changing, my children are
getting older and my relationship with my partner is evolving. I can also see the end of my
professional career on the horizon (whether I am looking forward to it or dreading it). During peri-
menopause and at the beginning of menopause, I sleep less, I am more on edge than usual, more
emotional, but above all, depending on my temperament, I have new questions about the future.
No matter what I do, I can’t fight the changes in my body (and mind). As soon as I decide to accept
these changes, I can act. My hormone levels are falling, which causes sensations that are not always
pleasant, but I can support myself and minimise unpleasant feelings by taking the lead. I am
menopausal or soon will be: that’s all there is to it. I’m ready to set up my new life!
I am developing new habits and placing my well-being at the top of my priorities
More than ever, I take advantage of the present moment by integrating small beneficial breaks into
my daily routine to take care of myself:
● I take care of my body and mind: it’s the ideal time to get back into fitness to enjoy its anti-
stress effects while keeping my weight in check and my muscles toned. With each session, I
become aware of my abilities and I develop new ones: my body is my friend, I sleep better, I
feel proud of myself and I have a clear head.
● I adapt my meals, incorporating more fibre, vitamins and minerals into all my dishes, and
take care to limit ingredients with a high glycemic index. Certain foods that are rich in
isoflavones (phytoestrogens), such as soya, help me to manage the hormonal transition
better.
● I reconnect with my emotions through yoga, meditation or mindfulness practice with simple
breathing exercises and poses that are accessible to everyone.
● I take care of my skin and hair with targeted moisturising products. By taking the time to
pamper myself, I feel beautiful and I boost my self-esteem.
I discuss and share my feelings: I am not alone!
I don’t keep my fears and concerns to myself. Friends, family or a doctor I trust can help me to dispel
certain fears or to find personalised solutions so that I can live through menopause more peacefully.
By talking freely about my fears and about what is happening in my body and in my mind, I can take
the pressure off, step back, get through this stage more easily and even help my loved ones who are
going through the same ups and downs as me.
With menopause, I start a new chapter in my life where everything is possible! I take more time for
myself, I listen to my body and my emotions and I share my feelings without shame.
